The boy Dima from Kramatorsk was born with a serious diagnosis. When the parents found out that excess fluid was accumulating in the child’s head, they immediately wrote a refusal and left him in the hospital. The name Kalekin was given to him by the nurses of the department.
Then the boy was sent to a specialized orphanage. There, after the examination, the doctors predicted him only 1.5 years of life, no more. But time passed, and the baby lived and developed, not like all children, of course, he had problems with this.
Then after 4 years, this orphanage began to be disbanded, they wanted to send all the children to Russia, but the head doctor was against it, because there were very «heavy» kids who could not stand such a long trip. The management managed to arrange for the children to be redirected to Kharkiv.
For Dimochka, even this distance turned out to be very difficult. Every bump or hole on the road threatened him with a fracture of the cervical vertebrae. In order to somehow fix the boy’s head, he was transported in a trough covered with pillows.
Due to his illness, Dima could not walk, and he ate from a syringe. But at the same time, he was able to learn to speak in short sentences and this surprised everyone around him. But everyone around understood that Dima would have a very difficult future. I could only hope for a miracle, maybe someone would want to adopt him…
And a miracle happened, a couple from America found out about the boy. Ernest and Ruth Chavez from Vermont were in a special database of people who are ready to adopt a child. They already had four children of their own and seven adopted.
Soon the couple flew to Ukraine to meet Dima Kalekin. The boy conquered their hearts from the very first minutes, he had such a positive energy and he loved to laugh.
The Chaves began to prepare documents for adoption, they already had experience in this, so they coped with the formalities quickly. A few months later, Dima saw Ernest and Ruth again, he was very happy about this meeting.In the fall of 2015, a boy from Kramatorsk had a large and loving family in the USA. His adoptive parents gave him a new name — Zebedaya Chavez (abbreviated Zeb).
The boy quickly adapted to the new environment, his parents, brothers and sisters surrounded him with care and attention and he began to change before our eyes. Zeb learned to eat on his own and to be physically active.
«At home, for the first time, he ate his breakfast with a spoon and drank a bottle of apple juice. Every day he enjoys food more and more, and this makes us very happy,» Ernest Chavez shared on social networks.
After the examination, it turned out that the child’s frontal lobes of the brain remained intact, which play an important role in the development of intelligence. Therefore, Zeb has great potential. He only needs serious help in physical development.Thanks to the efforts of Ernest and Ruth, Zeb has already gone through several important operations that should improve his condition.
Of course, he still has a long way ahead of him, which will require a lot of effort. But I want to believe that this wonderful boy and his new family will be able to cope with everything.What Ernest and Ruth are doing is admirable. It’s nice to realize that there are such kind and caring people on earth.
