It must be an unbearable feeling to want children but not be able to get pregnant. Carolyn Savage and her husband Sean had three wonderful children, but despite all attempts, the couple could not conceive again. Instead of the two cherished strips on the test, Carolyn started a new cycle every time. This led to mental exhaustion, and as soon as Carolyn became pregnant, encouraging news was accompanied by miscarriages.
In the end, the couple decided to use IVF or artificial insemination. They prayed to God, and he answered their prayers. It wasn’t long before Carolyn got pregnant, and soon after that, Sean got a call and was told something that the couple could never have imagined in their lives.
Carolyn and Sean Savage got married in 1993, and a year later the first child appeared in the family. After that, Carolyn had difficulty getting pregnant naturally. Nevertheless, after undergoing treatment for infertility, the couple soon had a second child.
10 years have passed since the birth of their youngest child, when in 2007 Carolyn and Sean underwent in vitro fertilization. Nine months later, their third child, daughter Mary Kate, was born. In February 2009, Carolyn underwent embryo implantation again, as the couple decided to have a fourth child.
Soon, she and Sean received the news that the IVF procedure was successful. But some time later, their lives were turned upside down. Just a few days after the onset of pregnancy, shocking news awaited them. The doctor called and reported that the embryos were mistakenly mixed up.
Carolyn Savage was very happy to become a mom again, but the baby in her womb was not her own. Carolyn was planted with another woman’s embryo. Carolyn was forced to make the most difficult decision of her life: to keep or get rid of the fetus she was supposed to give birth to. She decided to give the child to his biological parents, despite the fact that the doctor said that this was her last chance to carry and give birth.
«At first we were shocked, and then we realized — this is what is going to happen. We made a difficult, but it seems to us, the right decision,» explains Carolyn.
She gave her child away
Sean and Carolyn decided to contact the baby’s biological parents, Shannon and Paul Morrell, who lived in Detroit.
Carolyn gave birth to a boy named Logan by Caesarean section four weeks ahead of schedule. She had only half an hour before she gave the boy to his biological parents.
«He’s their son. But he will always be my child,» says Carolyn. For Sean, handing Logan over to his biological parents, who were waiting in a room next to the delivery room, proved to be a difficult task.
After what happened, Carolyn thought that nothing could surprise her anymore.
But soon happiness knocked on the couple’s house again. In 2011, Carolyn and Sean announced that they were expecting twins, which a surrogate mother was carrying for them.
The «Miracle Twins» Isabella and Regen brought great joy to the family, which had to go through so much suffering and disappointment.
«The twins helped us recover a little bit from what we had to go through with Logan. They, of course, will not replace it for us, but they are our most beloved babies,» Carolyn said in an interview with the Daily Mail.
And in the spring of 2014, when the family was not waiting for any new twists of fate, incredible news came to them. Carolyn couldn’t believe her eyes when she looked at the pregnancy test left at home in the bathroom. Is it really true» «When my puzzled brain studied the test, I thought that I was confusing something. I’m infertile. Over the past twenty years, I have undergone countless types of infertility treatments, and, with the exception of a couple of IVF, I have only seen two positive pregnancy tests. What did my 45-year-old mind come up with? I can’t be pregnant. Or can I?»
The boy, named Nicholas Winton Savage, was born in the fall of 2014, increasing the number of family members of Carolyn and Sean Savage to eight, despite all sorts of difficulties associated with childbirth over the past two decades.
Nicholas, who was conceived naturally, was born when his mother Carolyn was 45 years old. He has two older brothers, one older sister and twin sisters! What a wonderful and special family!
