Pregnancy is a difficult, joyful and exciting time in the life of a mother, because she demonstrates the incredible abilities of a woman to educate. People usually talk about the changes that the new phase brings, such as body shape, fatigue, cravings and nausea. Social, financial and emotional changes are also normal when preparing to become a father. One woman was over the moon when she became pregnant with her son Noah. Her excitement immediately doubled when, three weeks later, she became pregnant again as a result of an incredibly rare phenomenon called «superfetation.»
Rebecca Roberts, 39, was stunned when she discovered she was expecting two children, as previous pictures showed no signs of a second child. «I didn’t even know it was possible to get pregnant again during pregnancy,» Ms Roberts said. Ms Roberts, who also has a 14-year-old daughter, underwent tests to rule out genetic or chromosomal causes.
She and her partner, 43-year-old Rhys Weaver, were told that the fertility medication she was taking may have caused her to release an egg even though she was already pregnant. According to Healthline, superfetation is very rare. This phenomenon occurs when the second pregnancy occurs during the first pregnancy. Babies born from superfetation are usually considered twins, since they can be born on the same day. There are only a few cases of superfetation, and most cases have occurred in women undergoing infertility treatment such as IVF.
Miss Roberts’ miracle twins were born at 33 weeks by Caesarean section due to problems with baby Rosalie’s umbilical cord. She weighed just 2 pounds 7 ounces, while her brother Noah weighed 4 pounds 10 ounces. Rosalie was discharged from the hospital almost three months after the birth of her brother.
