He was lying and crying on the bed in the orphanage room. He, a little four-year-old Sasha, was scared. He didn’t understand where his mom and dad had gone. The little heart was squeezed with pain, sobbing, Sasha called: «Mommy, Mommy…!» But no one came, all the children were asleep, and the teachers did not care about the tears of another abandoned baby.
Sasha was born to a dysfunctional woman, abandoned in the maternity hospital. Six months later, he was adopted by an approximate family, in which he lived for three and a half years. He did not know any of this: the memories of the first months of life were not preserved in the child’s memory. Everyone thought that the baby was very lucky, because his parents were immediately found, and he did not have time to realize with his small mind that he had been abandoned.
For three and a half years, Sasha lived in a family where mom and dad loved him… Then, an unexpected happiness happened – Svetlana’s mother said that he would have a brother or sister. Sasha was very happy, although he didn’t even understand why. From that day on, everything changed. He began to feel that Mom didn’t need him, and Dad was generally annoying. The baby tried his best to please his mom, hugged her, climbed on his knees, but Sveta began to pull away from the child.
Sergey, Svetlana’s husband, has always been against adoption. He didn’t understand how you could feel love for a child who had nothing to do with you. But his wife was so desperate that she could not bear him a child. And in the end he succumbed to persuasion. «I hope everything goes well,» he said. I hope…
How terrible that the fate of a little man depended on the justification of hope. Everything was going perfectly well. Sasha grew up as an ordinary child who gives his parents both joy and care. Sergey even became attached to him, although in his heart he did not admit it. Just hope is sometimes so much and so little when a person’s fate is at stake. Years passed. And then – Svetlana got pregnant! A miracle! Truly the providence of God! None of them understood the main thing at that moment – this gift was given to them exclusively through Sasha.
And Sasha became superfluous, unnecessary. Dad stopped playing with him and generally paying attention to him, and mom was always thinking about something of her own. He was fed, walked like a dog, and at home they said — «a place!» He started crying and urinating at night: it madly annoyed Dad, he even beat Sasha. Pain. For the first time, when faced with pain, the baby did not even understand why everything had changed. Why does Dad not love him, but only screams, and mom does not pay attention to him. How could this little innocent soul understand that she was alien, and did not become native to these two adults.
Sergey began to start a conversation about the fact that Sasha needs to be returned to the orphanage. He gave dozens of arguments, but the main one was that they would have their own, native, desired. Svetlana does not argue with her husband, loving the child growing under her heart; she understood that she would never love someone else’s child like that. Unfortunately, only now..
The decision was made, the parents filed documents with the court to give up custody of Sasha. Sergei’s hopes failed… not understanding anything, the kid was sitting on a chair in a strange house where he was brought, the court was going on behind a closed door. The trial where Mom and Dad refused him. He looked around, noticed sympathetic glances, and, huddled in a ball, with glasses full of tears, looked at strangers passing by. Sasha was terribly scared: he was shaking, and shuddered from the slamming doors of neighboring offices.
When mom and dad came out, the man did not even look in the direction of the baby. And Mom came up to him with some aunt and said: «Sashunya, you’re going with this aunt.» Without turning around, she followed her husband, and Sasha realized that they were leaving, shouted and ran after her. Aunt grabbed his hand, and he, realizing that something terrible had happened, began to bite her, beat her and pull away. He shouted, «Mom, don’t go!» But Svetlana did not hear him, together with her husband they got into the car and drove home. Sasha, tearful and wet, was brought to some terrible house. He looked around, and it seemed to him that the world had turned upside down. He was taken to a room with the same children. He quickly ran to the corner, and sat down, covering his small face with his hands, fenced himself off from everything.
Days went by, but Mom didn’t come and pick him up. He cried, cried constantly, did not play with other children. The poor kid did not know that he, so defenseless, had already been changed twice. Only one old teacher could persuade him to eat. There was so much love and warmth in her that during the shift when she worked, Sasha just thawed out. Aunt Valya sat him on her lap and rocked him, saying: «My poor you, why do you need this. Does the Lord not see…». Sasha did not understand her lamentations, but he felt warm and good, and he fell asleep in her arms. In vain Aunt Valya doubted the providence of the Lord. Svetlana died during an early very difficult birth, giving birth to an inanimate child. And Sergey, who hoped so much that everything would be fine, just got drunk, losing his job, his apartment, and his soul. And Sasha was adopted by the family of a priest who read about this case from a local newspaper. The priest’s wife, Maria, who had five children of her own, did not hesitate for a minute when the man gave her this story to read. And Sasha never felt alienated and rejected again in his life.
