8,000 people die every year because they can’t get the organs they need in time. And this is despite the fact that more than 8,500 donors selflessly donate them to save more than 24,000 lives.
Heather’s 7-month-old son Lucas was one of these heroes who gave life to three people. He died unexpectedly while under the care of a nanny.
Needless to say, it was a nightmare for Heather, and she didn’t want other parents to feel the same way. She courageously decided to donate Lucas’ organs to three people in need.
Lucas’ heart was given to a 4-year-old girl named Jordan. She spent the first years of her life in the hospital, as she suffered from a congenital heart defect. A heart transplant was her only chance to survive. Fortunately, Lucas’ heart came to the rescue.
A few years after the operation , Heather meets Jordan and her family … and she heard Lucas’s heart beating hard in Jordan’s chest. After many years of despair and sadness after the loss of her son — imagine the emotions that a mother must have felt when she heard her son’s heart beating, so healthy and so alive.
It was a very emotional meeting for both mothers. Jordan’s mother couldn’t help but thank Heather. She even prepared a special gift — a Teddy Bear with a recording of Lucas’ heartbeat so that Heather could hear him every day!
