That evening, two women in the late stages of pregnancy, whose names were Zoya and Tatiana, were brought to the maternity ward. Tatiana was 34, and she was expecting a daughter. Fate decreed that she again found herself in the walls of the maternity hospital, where she gave birth to her first child – 18 years ago. It was a completely unwanted pregnancy, which Tanya found out about late. Then I had to tell my parents. These have been difficult months.
The father of the child, fearing for his reputation as an honest and decent person, sent the girl to a remote village, to her grandmother, and when the time came to give birth, he brought her to the regional maternity hospital.
Tanya was giving birth to a girl who no longer belonged to her. When the child began to cry, something opened in the mother’s chest: she wanted to hug this tiny creature, hug it to her and never let go. But the child was immediately picked up and taken away. Eight years later, she married for love. The girl’s father did not approve of the choice. However, this time Tatiana did not follow his lead, but packed up her things and left her hometown with her beloved.
Several years flew by while waiting to conceive a child. «Perhaps God is punishing me,» Tanya once thought. But, fortunately, Tatiana became pregnant when she turned 34. The baby was born strong and healthy. All night Tatiana lay under a drip, dreaming to see her daughter as soon as possible. That evening, a very young girl was brought to the hospital. She gave birth to a girl and immediately abandoned her.
Anna Petrovna has worked in this maternity hospital all her life. When she saw Tatiana, she was pleasantly surprised. At the end of the shift, she filled out stories, and she knew almost everything about Tatiana, but Zoya… When the woman wrote, she drew attention to the year of birth: the girl turned out to be from the baby’s house.
Anna was scalded by an electric shock: she remembered the events of many years ago. Tanya’s daughter was born with a birthmark on her wrist. She covered her face with her hands, not believing in the reality of what was happening. The women were in the same ward – mother and daughter – but they didn’t know about it. Anna did not dare to tell Tanya the truth.
Five years have passed. Tatiana and Artem are the happy parents of two wonderful girls, Masha and Katyushka. Katya is an adopted daughter: the couple decided to adopt her as soon as they found out about her in the maternity hospital. And Anna Petrovna recently informed them that Tanya is Katya’s own grandmother.
