“We’ll start with that.”
He held out his hand.
Maria looked at it for a few seconds.
Then she took it.
He helped her stand.
The girls clapped their hands, as if something very important had just happened.
“See?” one said.
“Now everything is okay,” the other added.
The snow kept falling.
But the cold no longer felt the same.
Sometimes life doesn’t change because of decisions adults make.
Sometimes it changes because of two small hearts
that simply couldn’t walk away.
